Work Hours Calculator
Add daily shifts to get total weekly hours, regular hours, and overtime hours.

Enter your shifts
Add a row per day worked. Use 24-hour time format.
How weekly hours work
For each shift: end time minus start time, minus unpaid break minutes. Overnight shifts (end time earlier than start time) automatically wrap to the next day. Total weekly hours sum across all entered shifts.
Overtime in the US
Under federal law (Fair Labor Standards Act, FLSA), non-exempt employees earn overtime pay (1.5 times regular rate) for hours over 40 in a workweek. Some states have additional rules (California has a daily overtime threshold of 8 hours, plus a double-time threshold of 12 hours). This calculator uses a single weekly threshold; adjust as needed for your situation.
Common pitfalls
- Unpaid breaks: meal breaks of 30+ minutes are typically unpaid; rest breaks under 20 minutes typically must be paid. Enter only unpaid break time in the break field.
- Overnight shifts: set start as 22:00 and end as 06:00; the calculator handles the wrap.
- Multiple jobs: overtime threshold applies per employer, not across jobs. Calculate each job separately.
- Salaried exempt: if you are exempt under FLSA, overtime does not apply regardless of hours worked. Check your classification.
