Measurement Calculators

Last updated: October 7, 2026

Convert between any two units. Compare prices per ounce, gram, or item.

Measurement conversion is one of those problems that should be solved by now, and technically it is. But every existing tool insists on covering its calculator with three ad blocks, a newsletter signup, and a popup before showing you the answer. CalcHive's measurement tools do the math, show the result, and get out of your way.

Whether you're comparing two products at the grocery store, converting a length from inches to centimeters, or figuring out which pack of paper towels is the better deal per square foot, the math is the same. The difference is how fast you get the answer.

How to choose a measurement calculator

Pick the tool that matches the kind of quantity, not the room you are standing in. A distance is length. A mass is weight. A capacity is volume. A floor or a wall surface is square footage. A price compared across package sizes is unit price. A thermometer reading is temperature. Kitchen cups and spoons are close to volume, and they live in the cooking section because ingredient density gets involved. Use the Cooking Measurement Converter for those. The six tools on this page do not convert cups of flour to grams.

If a project needs two kinds of measure, run them separately. A patio's surface in square feet and its concrete in cubic yards are different. Square footage is here. Cubic yards from length, width, and thickness are the concrete calculator under DIY. Board feet for lumber are the board feet calculator, not a length conversion.

The six tools

The Length Converter converts inches, feet, yards, miles, millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, and nautical miles through meters. It is linear distance only. Feet-and-inches such as 5 feet 10 inches should be entered as total inches or as a true decimal of feet, not as 5.10.

The Weight Converter converts everyday mass units. It is the right stop before a unit-price comparison if one package is labeled in pounds and the other in ounces, and before the BMI calculator if your scale and the form disagree about kilograms and pounds. The weight converter will not turn a cup of flour into grams. Cooking measurement myths is why a cup is not one weight, and the cooking measurement converter is the tool that stores a grams-per-cup figure.

The Volume Converter converts liquid and dry capacity, and it is where US gallons and Imperial gallons have to be kept apart. A fuel tank or a paint can that crossed an ocean can be the wrong size if those gallons are treated as identical. Recipe spoons still belong in the cooking converter.

The Square Footage Calculator turns one shape at a time (rectangle, square, triangle, or circle) into square feet, square meters, and square yards. An L-shaped room is two runs you add yourself. It does not apply a waste factor. Sod orders and paint coverage start from an area. This page gives you the area. The sod calculator and the paint calculator turn that area into pallets or gallons. How many gallons of paint for a 12x12 room runs the paint formula for 10×10, 10×12, 12×12, and 12×14. How to read a paint label is about the coverage number you type into that formula.

The Temperature Converter converts Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin. Oven dials and Gas Mark are the cooking temperature tool, linked above in spirit from the cooking hub. Use this one for weather, science homework, and any non-oven reading.

The Unit Price Calculator divides each package price by its size and names the cheaper one per unit. The unit menu is a label. It does not convert ounces to pounds. Match the units first, with the weight or volume converter if the labels disagree, then come back. A sale price should be the price you will actually pay. The percent-off calculator produces that sale price when the offer is a percent.

Match the quantity before you match the unit

Length, mass, and volume each have their own base unit in the code, and none of them will convert into the others. Length multiplies by an exact meter factor: the international inch is 0.0254 m, the foot is 0.3048 m, the statute mile is 1609.344 m, and the nautical mile is 1852 m. NIST Special Publication 811 is the reference for those factors. Weight multiplies by grams, and the pound is the international avoirdupois pound, 453.59237 grams. The ounce in that list is a mass ounce. A fluid ounce is on the volume page. Volume multiplies by milliliters. The US gallon is 3785.411784 mL, from 231 cubic inches. The imperial gallon is 4546.09 mL. One US gallon displays as 3.785412 liters. One imperial gallon displays as 4.54609 liters. The menus will not guess which gallon a label meant.

Square footage is area, one shape at a time, with no waste factor. Unit price divides a price by a size and does not convert the size. If one package is in ounces and the other is in grams, convert first, then compare. Temperature is Fahrenheit, Celsius, and kelvin through Celsius, with a block below absolute zero. Gas marks are not on it. They are on the cooking oven converter, which also rounds 350°F to a whole-degree summary of 177°C. This temperature page shows 350°F as 176.6667°C. Same formula, different display. Kitchen cups and spoons, and grams of flour, are the cooking measurement converter. Its US cup matches this volume page. Its densities do not live here.

FAQ

Which tool converts a gallon?

The volume converter. Pick US or imperial. One US gallon displays as 3.785412 liters. One imperial gallon displays as 4.54609 liters. The fuel-economy tool does not convert gallons. It divides miles by the MPG you type.

Is the ounce on the weight page a fluid ounce?

No. It is the avoirdupois ounce, 28.349523125 grams. Fluid ounces are volume. Sixteen weight ounces display as 1 pound. A fluid ounce will not.

What do I type for 5 feet 10 inches?

70 inches, or 5.833333 feet. The length converter has no mixed feet-and-inches field. Typing 5.10 feet is 61.2 inches, a different height. BMI also wants total inches, not 5.10.

Does unit price convert ounces to pounds for me?

No. It divides each price by the size you type and assumes the sizes are already in one unit. Convert with the weight or volume tool first if the labels disagree.

Where is gas mark?

On the oven temperature converter under Cooking. The measurement temperature tool is Fahrenheit, Celsius, and kelvin only. 350°F there displays as 176.6667°C, not as a gas mark.
